What training has JES operators taken?

Whether your system is industrial or municipal, JES has a licensed operator who can fulfill the requirements of your small to medium sized facility. [Details of our training]

What types of systems do you operate?

  • Operational Management Activated Sludge - Still the most typical type of system in use today, activated sludge is effective as long as the operating parameters are consistent. Those parameters are loadings, dissolved oxygen, pH, nitrogen and phosphorous levels. When one or more of these factors are changed, the entire process could be affected. JES operators have extensive experience in dealing with these problems and what operational changes should be made to correct these problems. When systems are in total upsets, knowing whether to chlorinate, use of polymers, bagged microorganisms, or alternative treatments are what makes JES operators so skilled. We will recommend a favorable solution with the client's cost as a primary focus.

  • Chemical-Physical Polymers, Filtration, Breakpoint chlorination are processes that don't typically use activated sludge as their primary treatment method. The problems associated with these types of systems are unlike those associated with the activated sludge plant. Often there are mechanical problems, incorrect chemical dosages and poorly maintained equipment. The challenge is to pinpoint what the cause of the problem is and then to quickly make the essential corrections to bring the plant back in compliance. JES operators have experience in these areas and will provide the necessary expertise to resolve these issues.

  • SBR (Sequential Batch Reactors) - SBR plants also operate with an activated sludge process yet the actual composition of the plant is significantly smaller because all of the reactions essentially take place in one basin. This kind of plant poses a different type of challenge and you need operators who have experience in dealing with hurdles without hindering operation. The JES operator will be able to microscopically analyze your bacteria culture and make some recommendations for improvements in your SBR.

  • Ultra filtration Membrane, or ultra, filtration is growing in popularity as a very effective means of treatment of water and wastewater systems. These systems provide a very high quality effluent that is consistent in nature. These plants require very specific maintenance procedures to ensure sustained treatment. JES operators know some of the common problems associated with these plants and have experience in operating this type of system successfully.

What are some other services you can provide?

  • Lab scheduling/samplingTesting of your water is a regular occurrence and knowing what to test for and who to contact to handle your sampling events are a part of JES services. Not all laboratories provide certified results or can test specifically for what is required in your permit. Understanding your permit and knowing what labs are qualified to test your water is important in maintaining a quality product. JES operators will become familiar with your permit and schedule testing with a certified lab for all applicable parameters.

Do you provide solids management/cost saving alternatives?

  • Sludge thickeners, gravity thickeners, belt filter pressesOne of the most cost effective measures an operator can have is through a plant's solids management program. Having an efficient program can reduce disposal costs, solids generation, chemical treatment and specifically, polymer usage. JES operators know the importance of having an effective solids management program. They know that by increasing a plant's solids by just 1 to 2% can greatly reduce hauling costs over an entire year. Let JES show you where you can make process improvements and save costs associated with your entire solids management program. JES will operate the system more effectively, make recommendations for a more efficient polymer, find a more cost effective way to transport your solids and overall save costs to the client.

  • Effluent re-use - In all wastewater plants, one of the most important factors related to costs is the usage of water, either to clean or as an aid to transport chemicals. At JES, we have used innovative approaches to save costs for the client. We have produced water clean enough for re-use by pumping effluent to chemical tanks, effluent used to clean belt presses, screens and clarifier surfaces. Over the course of one year, the water saved is estimated to be in excess of several million gallons.
